For those of you unfamiliar with Glenn Kaiser and his musical history, Carolina Moon might very well be the record to get you acquainted with him. The ’70s rock stylings of this album are very reminiscent of his and bass player Roy Montroy’s previous group, Resurrection Band, in which Glenn was the lead singer and guitarist, and Roy was the bass player. On the opener, “Torch,” Kaiser sings, “I’m carryin’ a torch . . . I got good, good news . . . got such a love to give.”It’s easy to see that his blues-rock outlet is no exception for lyrics that are poignantly hopeful and Christ-centered. Many songs throughout this record are stories of drug addiction (“Out Cold”) and of loss (“Carolina Moon”). But those songs are answered with “Mercy,” “Mercy . . . put her arms around me / kissed me and seemed at home . . . she knows who I am an’ knows what I’ve done,” and “Country Mile,” which talks of the joy of seeing the Lord’s face for the first time. The Glenn Kaiser Band has taken a step in the right direction by rooting this record in a strong classic rock edge. With Ed’s solid grooves and Roy’s moving bass lines, they give Glenn room to solo and let his fingers fly. Combined with honest and straightforward lyrics, Carolina Moon stands out as quite possibly the best blues-rock album in Christian music today.Christopher Wiitala.

[*]Palavra de Piriá: Algo que não pode faltar no som de qualquer guitarrista. Eu som tecladista mas passei o fim de semana ouvindo isso. Bom demais. O som é muita guitarra e pouco papo.
